24 September 2025 – Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group has announced the launch of Qwen-3 Max, its most advanced large language model (LLM) to date, marking a bold step in the global race to dominate artificial intelligence.
The flagship model, boasting over 1 trillion parameters, positions Alibaba directly against industry leaders such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Trained on a vast 36 trillion tokens, Qwen-3 Max is designed to deliver breakthroughs in reasoning, code generation, multilingual performance, and autonomous agent capabilities.
One of its standout features is a context window of up to 1 million tokens, enabling the model to process entire books, large code repositories, or complex technical documentation in a single query — a significant leap beyond most current AI models.
Alongside Qwen-3 Max, Alibaba also introduced Qwen-3 Omni, a multimodal system capable of handling text, image, audio, and video inputs, pushing the company further into the realm of “all-in-one” AI systems.
“With Qwen-3 Max, we aim to set a new benchmark in scale, performance, and accessibility,” Alibaba Cloud executives stated during the launch. “This model will empower industries from finance and healthcare to education and creative sectors.”
A Global Rivalry Intensifies
The launch underscores China’s determination to keep pace with U.S. tech firms in developing state-of-the-art AI. On performance benchmarks such as Tau2-Bench and LMArena, Alibaba claims Qwen-3 Max surpasses several high-profile competitors, including DeepSeek V3.1 and Anthropic’s Claude.
Still, experts caution that raw scale does not guarantee superiority. Training efficiency, alignment, safety, and real-world application remain crucial challenges as trillion-parameter models become more common.

True to the Qwen series’ reputation, Alibaba indicated it will continue offering open access to developers and enterprises, promoting wider adoption and research collaboration across borders.
